On our top list of Innovation Gamechangers, Adidas’ latest tech innovation, smart running shoes called The Adidas Futurecraft 4D, holds great promise for runners and other athletes. Adidas says the smart shoe enables you to run faster, pivot better and jump higher.
The new sneakers’ midsole can be precisely structured for the wearer in terms of size, shape, flexibiliity, cushioning, impact and much more. The innovation gamechanger technology enabling this is 3D printing which facilitated Adidas looking at “every single square millimeter of a midsole” and tune it for performance.
According to Futurecraft 4D Project Manager Al VanNoy it would take weeks using traditional shoemaking methods to so precisely optimize the fit. With the innovation gamechangers technique of 3D Printing it takes only 2 hours. In the future with a timeframe like that, the shoes could be produced in store. But in the meantime, Adidas is rolling out a standardized version that’s based on seventeen years of data from runners.
